QUALITY OR QUANTITY
|
|
In the music business, when I think quality, one band
springs to mind - U2. They have produced 13 albums since their
first in 1977. Every album takes years to produce, with the
band constantly reinventing itself and creating music that
is meaningful and a direct reflection of the issues in society
at the time. In direct contrast, I think of Eminem, who writes
simple rhyming rap songs that take a few minutes to produce,
but he releases several new singles and at least one album
per year since he burst onto the scene a few years back. In
every industry there are leaders, those who continually win
awards and sell the most records, and these leaders always
do an exceptional job of either quality or quantity - those
who try to do both well are stuck in the middle of their market.

FOREIGN MARKETS
|
|
Our little continent is greatly influenced by many factors,
such as corporate America, the royals of England, and the
mass production of Asia. Every insignificant event in each
of these cultures has the ability to touch me in some way
- whether to grow my business or induce a decline, affect
the businesses of my clients and associates, or to change
the direction of a whole industry within my world.

EDUCATING THE SURFER
|
|
Every item we use day to day in our modern society is
the result of clever marketing by the manufacturer at some
point in history - some items date back thousands of years,
but they were still marketed by the seller by educating a
consumer to believe they needed the product. We all learned
about the difference between 'wants' and 'needs' in our early
school years, the basic human needs defined as food, shelter
and love with everything else falling into the 'wants' category.
A need is defined as something that is compulsory, necessary
for survival, but in this century, we define a need as something
which improves our quality of life, thanks to the clever marketing
of corporations the world over.

TOP 10 DESIGN TIPS
|
|
10) Style Sheets are your best friend ... Until DHTML
was invented, traditional print designers struggled with making
html do the things they were used to doing in other software.
DHTML is the designers programming language, with basic tags
that control elements across an entire site. Style Sheets
give you flexibility with word and letter spacing, a variety
of 2d & 3d borders on tables, and control over the exact
placement of elements on a page using layers.

CHICKEN OR THE EGG

Historically, when a new entertainment medium is launched,
business booms in that direction for a period of years - the
21st Century brings with it many new developments that we
could only have dreamed about at the beginning of the last
decade. While then we marveled at GPS (Global Positioning
System) and satellite technology, we have now reached the
time where mobile devices control the flow of information
globally between governments and people - right down to personal
cell phones which deliver news, sports scores or porn movies
wherever you are.

Loosely defined, content is any entertaining material which
keeps a reader/viewer occupied for a certain period of time
